Johor Bahru is served by the Sultan Ismail International Airport. It is not located in the city of Johor Bahru but is in Senai, about 28 kilometers away. Both national carrier, Malaysia Airlines and budget carrier Air Asia comes here, ferrying passengers into Johor Bahru daily. From there, you can take the taxi to the city center.

Johor Bahru is connected to Singapore by two links. The most common one is the Causeway which comes into the Johor Bahru city center. This link is always jammed with traffic during rush hours from the many who travel in and out of Singapore for work. the alternative route would be the Second Link that connects Tuas with Singapore which is faster, traffic free but a bit costlier.

To get to Johor Bahru from other parts of Malaysia on road, you can rent a car and travel into the state from the north through the North-South Expressway. This is the most common highway in around the mainland although some could take the trunk roads which are a bit more risky. Alternatively, you can take a bus from all major towns in Malaysia to get to Johor Bahru. Buses would usually stop at the Larkin Bus Terminal where you can take the public buses to and from the city. There are also taxi services here if you prefer hassle free stop to your destination. Another transport form would be using train served by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) that stops at the railway station in the city.

Once in Johor Bahru, you can take the public transport to get around the city. As the city is very huge, it is not advised to go around on foot. You should take the taxi whenever possible which compared to other cities in Malaysia are slightly cheaper. Buses are also available but you might risk getting lost if you are not familiar with where you want to go.

You can also rent a car when you are in the city. Look into our directory of car rental agencies and find out who you can engage the services from.
