The Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque is certainly a grand feat of architectural design and it is also a shining legacy of Islam in this country. The mosque is considered by many as the beginning of modernization in the state of Johor when it was commissioned in 1990 by Sultan Abu Bakar. This much respected monarch was widely referred to as the ‘Father of Modern Johor’ as he had saw through a number of projects in the state. The mosque was built with a grand total of MYR400, 000 and it can accommodate up 2000 worshippers at a single time. The mosque is used for congregational prayers that are held daily while the Friday congregational prayers are for men only. Non-Muslims are allowed to visit the mosque except on Fridays as well as during communal prayers but before you do so make sure that you are dressed appropriately. People can enter the mosque for free.
